In his first official appearance after being nominated by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the role of Minister of Defense, Andrey Belousov arrived at the Federation Council of Russia where consultations began regarding his nomination. The candidate minister Belousov was accompanied by the Chairwoman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, to one of the council's halls, where discussions about his appointment to the new position commenced, attended by members and officials of the Constitutional Court. The Federation Council of Russia announced yesterday that President Vladimir Putin proposed the appointment of Andrey Belousov as Minister of Defense. Belousov has held the position of First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia since January 21, 2020, and served as Acting Prime Minister from April 30 to May 19, 2020.
