Approximately two months after launching Operation "Espideris" in the Red Sea, the European fleet confirmed that all Houthi attacks in its operational areas failed. The European fleet stated in a report today, Monday, that it has provided protection for 60 commercial vessels in the Red Sea since February 19.
The European fleet also revealed that it has destroyed 9 drones and 3 Houthi ballistic missiles since the beginning of Operation "Espideris," noting that there are 4 frigates and 800 sailors from 19 European countries involved in the mission.
Furthermore, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated that Houthi attacks negatively affect Europe's trade interests and stability in the region. He added that the cost of shipping containers from China to Europe has doubled due to Houthi attacks, mentioning that the cost of insuring commercial vessels has increased by 60% as a result of these attacks.
Borrell clarified that Operation Espideris in the Red Sea was swift and necessary to protect navigation, highlighting that it engaged with the Houthis and conducted dangerous missions. Peter Stano, a spokesperson for the EU foreign affairs, announced that European countries launched the operation in February to protect commercial ships in the Red Sea from any illegal and unlawful attacks.
