Kuwait: Arrest Warrant Issued for Former MP Anwar Al-Fekr

Based on a complaint from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, an arrest warrant has been issued for former MP Anwar Al-Fekr. The order comes in light of remarks made by Al-Fekr during an electoral seminar that included interference with the powers of the Emir of the country, Sheikh Mishal Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Rai" reported that Al-Fekr publicly challenged the Emir's authority, which puts him at risk of legal prosecution.

On Wednesday, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf, the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, affirmed that "Kuwait is a trust in our hands, and we will not allow anyone to destabilize its security and stability, whether by word or action, in accordance with the noble directives of His Highness the Emir. The law will be applied to everyone with seriousness and firmness to preserve the safety and stability of the country, and no one is above the law, regardless of their position or title."

It is noteworthy that the new Kuwaiti government headed by Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Ahmad Al-Sabah took the oath of office on Wednesday before Emir Sheikh Mishal Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Last Friday, the Emir of Kuwait announced the dissolution of the National Assembly and the suspension of some constitutional provisions, explaining that he "made a difficult decision to save the country."
