The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that war minister Benny Gantz is meeting with leaders of his party to discuss the decision to resign from the War Council. It added that "according to analysts' assessments, Gantz will officially announce his resignation on Saturday evening after the Jewish Sabbath," noting that several relatives of captives have contacted Gantz to remain in the government until a prisoner exchange deal is finalized.
About three weeks ago, Gantz demanded Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commit to a mutually agreed vision for the conflict in Gaza that includes determining who might govern the territory after the war with Hamas. Gantz stated at a press conference that he wants the war cabinet to have a six-point plan by June 8. He warned that if his expectations are not met, his centrist party will withdraw from the emergency government led by Netanyahu.
In this context, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority mentioned that the U.S. administration has "asked Gantz to reconsider his anticipated withdrawal from the emergency government."
