Today, Wednesday, Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea met at his Ma'araab residence with French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo, MPs Pierre Bou Assi and George Adwan, former Minister Richard Kyomjian, and member of the LF's foreign relations department Tony Darwish.
Le Drian also met with the leader of the Marada Movement, Sleiman Franjieh, at the home of MP Tony Franjieh in Beirut, attended by Grillo, MP Tony Franjieh, and former Minister Roni Arayji. The meeting was friendly and positive, discussing all current files, with an exchange of ideas and possible solutions to get out of the presidential crisis, according to a statement from Franjieh's media office.
Earlier, Loderian had met with the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, at his residence in Al-Bayadah.
Le Drian arrived in Beirut on Tuesday for a series of meetings and discussions with various Lebanese officials. He also met with MP Faisal Karami, head of the "Karama Movement" and member of the "National Accord" bloc, representing his fellow bloc members, along with French Ambassador Anne Grillo.
After the meeting, Karami's advisor Alaa Jalilati quoted him saying, "We listened to Minister Le Drian's proposal regarding consultations during September, and we welcome any invitation for consultation or dialogue about the presidential file specifically under the auspices of the Taif Agreement."
He added, "We confirmed to Le Drian that the solution begins with electing a president for the republic, which is not the entire solution, but the key to it. It should be complemented with the appointment of a prime minister, the formation of a government, and the implementation of essential economic and political reforms based on a clear economic plan."
Jalilati continued: "We established our position regarding the nomination of Sleiman Franjieh, which aligns with our convictions. We can enter into consultations with an open heart and an extended hand based on our steadfast convictions, the most important of which is the consensus on the name of the next president and the preservation of the Taif Agreement."
