Case of the "Desert Escobar": Start of the First Trial Sessions

Today, Thursday, the first trial sessions began at the Court of Appeal in Casablanca, Morocco, for the former president of Wydad Athletic Club, Said Naciri, and the President of the Eastern Region, Abdel Nabi Biaoui, related to what has come to be known as the "Desert Escobar" case. The two accused, who are leaders in the Moroccan political party “Authenticity and Modernity,” face serious charges related to drug trafficking, as well as other accusations such as forgery, fraud, and abuse of power.

According to local media, both Said Naciri and Abdel Nabi Biaoui attended the session from within the glass cage in Room No. 8, amidst a heavy presence of lawyers and the families of the accused, totaling around 26 defendants, some of whom are on bail. The trial is expected to continue for several lengthy sessions in the coming days at the Court of Appeal in Casablanca, where the judiciary will hear the arguments of the defense representatives before issuing rulings in the case.

The investigating judge decided to proceed against Said Naciri on charges related to "the misdemeanor of attempting to export drugs without declaration or permit and participation therein," in addition to "participation in an agreement aimed at possessing drugs, trafficking in them, transporting them, exporting them, importing foreign currencies, and concealing items obtained from a crime." Similarly, the investigating judge decided to proceed against Abdel Nabi Biaoui on charges related to "participation in an agreement aimed at possessing drugs, trafficking in them, transporting them, exporting them, importing foreign currencies, and concealing items obtained from a crime."
