Berri: Lebanon Pays a Heavy Price for Standing with Palestine

The Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, emphasized that "what gives hope is that Palestine is not alone, especially since some have distanced themselves from it and from the blood of Palestinians being shed on the hills of Arab Palestine. The meeting of writers, intellectuals, and wordsmiths from all over the Arab world in Lebanon is a support for Palestine and a rejection of the genocide being carried out by Israel against children, women, and the elderly in Gaza. The latest of these atrocities was the terrorist massacre committed yesterday against displaced persons in northern Gaza, where the Israeli killing machine insisted on dipping their morsel of bread in blood."

During his reception of Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi, the Secretary General of the Arab Writers Union and head of the General Union of Writers in Egypt at the second presidential office in Ain el-Tineh, he stated: "Yes, Lebanon is paying a heavy price for standing with Palestine, and this is our destiny. However, it must be emphasized that what is happening in Gaza, the West Bank, and the holy city of Jerusalem—and the potential fall of this Arab geography—would not just be a fall of Palestine, but rather a fall of Arab national security, and a fall for humanity as a whole, which is being tested every day by its failure to curb Israel's aggression and stop the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people for nearly five continuous months."

Dr. Abdel Hadi presented President Berri with an award in appreciation of his efforts, and several literary publications by participating writers and poets were also handed to the president.

In the afternoon, the Speaker met with Sheikh Ahmed Al-Qattan, the head of the "Qulna wal Amal" Association, who handed him his doctoral thesis titled "The Concept of Condition and its Validity among Different Scholastics." After the meeting, he remarked: "I was honored to meet Nabih Berri, whom we consider a true and national guarantee for this country. We always see him striving for the unity of the Lebanese and for bridging the gaps between them. I had the honor of presenting a copy of my doctoral thesis, which is titled 'The Concept of Condition and its Validity among Different Scholastics,' a comparative study among Islamic sects, and I benefited greatly from his extensive knowledge and profound Islamic thought."

He stressed with "his excellency" the need to expedite the election of a Lebanese president, especially in these times when the country is in dire need of a president. Expressing his sorrow for the "massacres committed by Israel in Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon," he added that the brothers in Gaza are writing a historical legend with their heroism and sacrifices, hoping for a near truce and victory for resistance movements everywhere, especially in Palestine and Lebanon.
