Two Palestinian institutions reported that the number of Palestinian detainees from the West Bank and Jerusalem reached 8,665 since October 7. A significant number of them have been placed under administrative detention. The Palestinian Authority's Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees and the Palestinian Prisoners Club stated in a joint announcement: "The majority of those arrested in ongoing raids since October 7 have been placed in administrative detention, including women, children, the injured, the ill, and the elderly."
Israel uses an old British law that allows the detention of Palestinians without trial for a period ranging from 3 to 6 months, which is renewable based on a claim of a secret security file on the detainee. The two organizations, which monitor issues related to Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, clarified that the number of administrative detainees has reached 3,600, including 40 children and 25 women, a record figure.
No comments have been released by Israeli authorities regarding the statement. Official Palestinian statistics indicate that the number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons has surpassed 9,000.
