The Moscow Planetarium has announced that "a distinctive and rare astronomical phenomenon will appear in the sky today." Astronomer Lyudmila Kushman stated, "On Monday, June 3rd, four planets will align closely within a 20-30 degree sector, creating a small astronomical display in the sky. These planets are Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, and Uranus, but they will not be visible to the naked eye. Such phenomena occur once every 20 years."
She added, "In addition to the four aligning planets, Mars, Neptune, and Saturn will also be on one side of the Sun, joined by the Moon, which will appear near Mars on Monday." The scientist noted that the alignment of five planets within a 20-30 degree sector is considered a significant planetary display known as a "grand alignment," which occurs far more rarely than the alignment of four planets.
The phenomenon of planetary alignment occurs because all the planets in the solar system orbit the Sun more or less on a flat plane called the "ecliptic," and sometimes, certain planets gather on one side of the Sun during their orbital movements.
