The Syrian suspect, Berraghish, disappeared from sight since last Saturday; he is the main suspect in the murder of Lebanese young woman Zainab Matouk. Berraghish was a cleaning worker at the Universel Residence hotel, where the victim worked in the Raouché area overlooking the sea in Beirut. The victim survived for some time in a hotel storage area before hotel staff discovered her and she was transported to the American University of Beirut Hospital in critical condition, but she later passed away.
Regarding the motive for the crime, available information suggests it may be related to Matouk discovering something Berraghish did at the hotel, prompting him to kill her to prevent her from revealing his secret. After attempting to escape to Syria through the Al-Masnaa border crossing, he bypassed all security checkpoints. However, upon entering the immigration and passport office of the Lebanese General Security in Al-Masnaa, Berraghish was recognized by a security officer. He quickly fled from the center, attempting to hide in a nearby barn, but General Security formed a security perimeter and arrested him, after which he was referred to the competent judiciary.
