Iranian media reported today, Saturday, that a loud explosion was heard in the Shiraz area, southern Iran, while the cause of the explosion is still unknown. The official news agency "ISNA" quoted the emergency and crisis director in Shiraz, Gholam Reza Gholami, stating that "the cause of the explosion is not known yet, and it will be announced after the investigations are completed." The emergency director denied that a helicopter had crashed near the explosion site. He added: "The explosion was reported by the army defense, and it may be related to issues such as mining activities or something else." Gholami continued: "Currently, police and environmental centers and the Bakhtakan province are following up on the matter, and the final result will be announced once available." In recent days, Iran has witnessed double bombings that resulted in the deaths of nearly 100 people. The "ISIS" group claimed responsibility for the bombings on Wednesday.
