The American envoy Amos Hochstein confirmed in an interview with NBN that the exploration for gas in Lebanese territorial waters has commenced. "This is indeed what Lebanon hopes for, and we all hope for stability in the south, so that Lebanon can have clear and secure borders in the waters," he stated. The U.S. presidential envoy noted that "the advantage of permanent border demarcation is that from now on, everything will be settled, and things can move smoothly."
Hochstein considered that "this has started to benefit the Lebanese economy through foreign investments," and added, "I do not expect any problems that would require my assistance." He affirmed that "the United States wants to support Lebanon," adding, "We believe that Lebanon can become a rich and prosperous country as it has the resources, the best people in the world, stunning views, and tourism, and Lebanese people are leading workers everywhere around the world."
He emphasized that "there is no reason to prevent Lebanon from building a new economy, and to do so, it needs good governance, an effective government, transparency, and better controls over the economy, and corruption must be eradicated." He pointed out that "more investments can be brought to Lebanon, but we need stability," concluding, "Borders certainly provide a sense of stability."
