The political body of the "Free Patriotic Movement," in a statement following its regular meeting chaired by Deputy Gebran Bassil, expressed its satisfaction with "the ceasefire in Gaza and its impact on southern Lebanon," hoping that "international communications and pressures will lead to a permanent ceasefire, paving the way for the political process based on international resolutions and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, without which there will be no lasting peace or stability in the East."
It reiterated "the call for parliamentary blocs to take genuine action leading to the election of a president of the republic that meets national needs and the regional and internal situation, which requires the presence of a president at any negotiation table in addition to a functioning government."
The body welcomed "any external assistance that serves the interests of the Lebanese," confirming that "the presidential election is, above all else, a sovereign Lebanese matter, and the parties responsible for it bear the responsibility for the delays in its achievement and the resulting consequences."
It considered that "the ongoing war must not be a reason to neglect vital mandates, formulate a rescue financial and economic plan, and undertake the necessary and required reforms to revive the financial and economic situation."
The body warned against "the continued closure of real estate departments in the Mount Lebanon governorate due to its detrimental impact on the treasury and the citizen," calling for "a solution that allows these departments to resume work without affecting the ongoing judicial investigation with some employees," noting that "solutions are available and the concerned parties are aware of them."
It emphasized "the need to keep files of corruption open and to continue pressure on the forensic auditing file to uncover the causes of the financial collapse and those responsible for it, as well as in the case of the Beirut port explosion so that the investigation reaches its conclusions and the prosecution of those proven responsible for this crime begins."
