Russian Court Imposes Fines on Apple

Russian media reported today, Tuesday, that a Russian court rejected an appeal by Apple against allegations of abusing its dominant market position concerning in-app payments, for which it was fined 1.2 billion rubles (12.1 million dollars) last January. Apple has not yet responded to a request for comment via email. The regulatory body stated in a statement that it had previously discovered that Apple forced Russian software developers to use Apple’s payment services in its App Store, which is a violation of Russian competition rules. The Russian media reported that the regulator's decision took legal effect in May after being approved by a court in Moscow. Apple appealed the decision and the fine. The value of the ruble has significantly decreased since January. The dollar value of the fine has dropped by more than five million dollars since then.
