A statement was issued today, Thursday, by the President of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, as follows: "Let it be clear to everyone that the presidential elections are called elections, and constitutionally they are elections, and practically they are elections with or without prior agreements. We have tried for more than a year and five months to reach agreements with the majority of parliamentary blocs for democratic elections, but our efforts were thwarted by the disruption of sessions. We tried through an agreement on a third option, but our attempt was thwarted by the insistence on the same candidate. While we did not succeed with the majority of blocs, we succeeded on the opposition level in agreeing on a first candidate and a second candidate within a framework of convergence in choice. Meanwhile, we have not advanced even an inch with the resistance team due to its eternal and everlasting insistence on its candidate, former Minister Sleiman Franjieh. In light of all this, there is no solution for the presidential elections except through voting, and anyone who says that there can be no presidency without dialogue is, in effect, stating clearly and openly: If you do not accept my candidate, there will be no presidency. This is completely unacceptable and rejected."
