The town of Jiyyeh has witnessed a notable surge in the theft of public electricity networks and cables. There have been reports of stolen cables from the station at the intersection near the Church and Monastery of Mar Charbel, which are publicly accessible overhead cables. Additionally, cables from a private swimming pool station have been stolen, as well as cables from the Bastani private swimming pool station. This wave of thefts has raised feelings of distress and anger among the residents, as such crimes have become more rampant in the town.
In response, security agencies have ramped up their efforts to conduct investigations and pursue the offenders. Meanwhile, acting Mayor Wissam Al-Haj stated that he has been in contact with security forces, affirming that they are "responsible for security in the town and that the municipality cannot replace the security forces." He noted, however, that the municipal police conduct patrols day and night, but lack the manpower and resources to cover the entire geographical area of the town. He also urged residents to "stay vigilant and cooperate with the municipality by reporting any acts or incidents that disrupt security in the town immediately."
