The Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abd al-Latif Daryan, urged the political factions involved in the election of the President of the Republic to cooperate and foster a spirit of tolerance and love, rejecting division. He emphasized that “there is no homeland without the election of a president who is entrusted with its interests.” Daryan noted that “the continuation of the presidential vacancy signifies instability and violates all the principles outlined in the Taif Agreement.” He stated, “We must all raise our voices to tell decision-makers in the presidential election to have mercy on Lebanon and the Lebanese people and agree on the election, adhering to the constitution and the Taif Agreement.”
He further declared, “We will stand as a barrier against any circumvention of the Taif texts, as what unites us as Lebanese is national unity, shared living, and respect for the constitution,” affirming that “the Lebanese have grown weary of the repeated attempts to avoid electing a credible president for the republic, as electing a president is a national responsibility that should not be taken lightly, regardless of political disagreements.”
From Mecca, Daryan sent congratulations to all Lebanese, especially Muslims, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, asking in a statement, “May God grant Lebanon security, stability, peace of mind, and the election of a president for the republic in these blessed days.” He expressed his “appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and friendly countries for their assistance in preserving Lebanon’s stability, safety, and unity, especially during the difficult circumstances it is going through.”
He thanked “the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as the Saudi government, for their care of the pilgrims of the Sacred House of God and providing them with the facilities and services they need to perform their rites securely and with peace of mind.”
On another note, Mufti Daryan contacted the former head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, and the current party leader, MP Taymour Jumblatt, congratulating him on his election by acclamation and wishing him success in his new duties.
Speaker of the House Nabih Berri also sent Eid al-Adha greetings to all Lebanese, especially Muslims, wishing the pilgrims of the Sacred House of God a “rewarded Hajj and accepted efforts,” while announcing his regret for “not receiving congratulations for the holiday due to the current situation in Lebanon.”
On the occasion, Berri also received a congratulatory telegram from the President of the Tunisian People’s Assembly, Ibrahim Bouderbala. Furthermore, Berri welcomed the Public Prosecutor Judge Ghassan Oueidat and a delegation from the Board of Trustees of the “Mohammad Reda Al-Haj Cultural Salon” at the second presidential residence in Ain al-Tineh. They expressed their gratitude to the president for hosting the honoring ceremony for Judge Oueidat, under the auspices of the Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abd al-Latif Daryan, represented by the head of the religious courts, Sheikh Mohammed Assaf.
