Debate Over the Banking Law in Lebanon.. And Al-Shami Responds

The Deputy Prime Minister, Saad al-Shami, stated that "social media outlets and some media channels are presenting fabricated news, devoid of truth, claiming that the bill to address the situation of banks is my project. This is a clear falsehood, and it is known who stands behind it and who benefits from it. If I were the sole responsible person for this project, I would proudly announce it publicly, as it is not in my character to shirk responsibility, and no one influences my positions or twists my arm. It is also regrettable that some from within our ranks have joined this chorus before they have had the chance to discuss it with those who formulated it." He added, "This project is the result of a joint effort between state institutions responsible for outlining and managing banking sector policies, including regulation and supervision. The law was entirely drafted by the Central Bank of Lebanon, taking into account the general trends of the financial recovery plan approved by the Cabinet and the observations of the government team. It is shocking, even disgraceful, that those who try to defend the rights of the people are accused of wasting them, while those with these rights stand alongside those who contributed to the wrong policies that led the country to its current state, as well as those who embezzled, wasted, and misused their funds. I never imagined that misinformation and deliberate harm would reach such a level."
