Asma al-Assad, the wife of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, sent a message through a video clip just before she began chemotherapy treatment for her leukemia. Asma stated that she will confront the leukemia diagnosis with strength and determination, armed with faith and trust in God, along with the prayers and affection of the Syrian people. She added, "Since the announcement of my leukemia diagnosis, I have received many messages filled with love and support that have given us, as a family, more strength during this time... Anyone who fights a battle with illness must possess strength and will, not just to overcome it, but also to endure the distance from those they love and who depend on them (...) I will fight this battle armed with faith and absolute trust in the Lord of the worlds and with your prayers and love… See you soon." This message comes from the First Lady Asma al-Assad just before she begins the treatment phase for her diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia.
