A local official in Basra province, Iraq, revealed today, Friday, updates on the investigation regarding the attack on the headquarters of the crime and drug departments in the Shatt al-Arab district of the province, emphasizing that the attack on security headquarters is a "cowardly act." Hayder Tauma, the district mayor of Shatt al-Arab, stated in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "investigations are ongoing by the security forces regarding the incident of the attack on the headquarters of the crime and drug departments in the district."
Tauma clarified that "the attack did not result in any injuries to the security forces. However, it cannot be said that those who opened fire are ordinary citizens or from a clan." He asserted that "targeting security headquarters is a cowardly act because those headquarters represent the banner of the nation; consequently, we went to investigate the incident, and the investigation is being conducted by security forces." He noted that "the targeting was specifically directed at the anti-drug headquarters, but the reasons are unclear and will be clarified once the investigations are completed."
Earlier today, a security source reported that the Saraya al-Salam group attacked the building of the crime directorate in the Shatt al-Arab district east of Basra province. The source told "Baghdad Today" that "elements of Saraya al-Salam attacked the building of the crime directorate in the Shatt al-Arab district with live ammunition." Additionally, it was stated that "the attack came in connection with the arrest of a member of the group on charges of arms trafficking."
