Video: Explosion Leaves Casualties in Iran

The governor of Abdanan, eastern Iran, Mohammad Rahmani, announced today, Saturday, that "an explosion in the main gas pipeline on one of the city streets resulted in the destruction of a residential unit, killing two people and injuring two others." In a statement to the government news agency IRNA, Rahmani said: "This explosion occurred about an hour ago during the installation of a fiber optic line in the city of Abdanan, due to negligence and lack of precautions by the installation workers while welding near the city’s gas pipeline.”

Rahmani noted that a two-story residential house was destroyed near the explosion site, stating: "So far, two people have been killed and two others injured in this incident, and their condition is critical according to initial reports." He added: "The dead and injured are family members residing in the residential house adjacent to the gas pipeline explosion site and among the workers of the fiber optic installation contractor in this city."

Rahmani explained that "investigations are ongoing regarding the exact number of victims and injuries in this incident," and said: "Currently, efforts are underway to remove the debris of the destroyed building as rescue and service teams are working, and the final number of casualties and injuries is not yet known." Videos and reports indicate that on Saturday, June 25, during workers’ excavation for the installation of the fiber optic line and welding in the city of Abdanan, the gas pipeline exploded, destroying a two-story residential house. According to the governor of Abdanan, in this incident, two people were killed and two were injured.
