The social media platform "X" has officially confirmed that it now allows the publication of any sexual or pornographic content on its platform, where such content has already been circulating for years. The platform stated on its "Adult Content" page in its updated guidelines, "We believe users should be able to create, publish, and display sexual content as long as this content is produced and distributed consensually." The platform emphasized that "such content will not be shown to children or adult users who do not wish to view it."
Since its establishment, the network has not officially prohibited the publication of pornographic videos or sexual images, although it also did not officially allow them. In 2019, it addressed the topic by announcing a ban on content involving "violent sexual behavior," starting from January 2020. Adult images or videos "that contain nudity or sexually explicit sexual acts" are now clearly allowed, according to the website of "X". This rule also applies to content generated by artificial intelligence, animations, and hentai, a Japanese genre of sexually explicit manga and animation.
However, the social network confirmed that it prohibits content that promotes "sexual exploitation" and forms of abuse against minors. Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have imposed strict rules on sexually explicit or pornographic content. Since acquiring the "X" platform in 2022, Elon Musk has aimed to make it a space for freedom of expression, even if that means easing content supervision.
