Kidnapping and Release by Security Forces

A statement was issued by the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division as follows: "On 31/07/2023, around 06:00 AM, while M. H. (born in 1976, Syrian) was heading from his residence in the Aisha Bakar area to his workplace, a car with two unknown individuals stopped nearby, who kidnapped him and took him to an unknown location. Immediately, the Information Branch was assigned to take action at the kidnapping site. As a result of their investigation, the branch identified one of the individuals involved in the operation, namely A. D. (born in 1989, Lebanese). They promptly began efforts to locate him and raid the places he frequented in the suburbs, resulting in the release of the kidnapped individual from A. D.'s home.

On 03/08/2023, one of the branch patrols managed to arrest A. D. in the Haret Hreik area. During the investigation, he confessed to his involvement with M. D. (born in 1993, Lebanese) in carrying out the kidnapping from Aisha Bakar, holding him inside his home in the suburbs, and demanding a ransom from his family for his release. Once they learned that the Information Branch was conducting raids to free the kidnapped individual, they released him and (M. D.) went into hiding in the Bekaa area.

Upon hearing the testimony of the kidnapped individual, he recognized A. D. and stated that he was one of the two individuals who kidnapped him. He was also shown a picture of M. D., and he confirmed that he was the second person involved in the kidnapping. He filed a complaint against both for the crime of kidnapping, illegal detention, and theft of his mobile phone. The vehicle used in the kidnapping was seized, and legal actions were taken against A. D., and he was referred to the competent authority based on the judiciary's instructions. Furthermore, a search and arrest warrant was issued for the second individual, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him."
