The Iraqi Artists' Syndicate mourned today, Sunday, the great artist Abdul Sattar Al-Basri. In a statement, the syndicate expressed, "With deep sadness and sorrow, the Iraqi Artists' Syndicate mourns the passing of the great artist Abdul Sattar Al-Basri, who passed away today after a prolonged illness. We ask Almighty God to envelop him in His vast mercy and to grant his family, loved ones, and colleagues patience and solace. Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return." The statement also noted that "the late artist Al-Basri was born in Basra in the Bajari neighborhood, where he completed his elementary, intermediate, and secondary schooling. He left Basra and the study of law to move to Baghdad, where he studied at the College of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad in 1967 and graduated in the academic year of 1971-1972 from the theater department. He joined the National Theatre Company in 1974 and presented numerous works in Iraqi theater, cinema, and television."
