The Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed that "the security operation in the Al-Batawin area of Baghdad achieved its set goals," noting that it aims to transform the area into a civilized front in the heart of the capital. Major General Khaled Muhanna, director of the ministry's relations and media department, stated to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "In line with global strategies, the police have taken on a preventive role as a reaction to existing crimes, which is a principle many police agencies rely on to reduce crime rates." He emphasized that "the Al-Batawin operation is not just a security operation but also a service-oriented initiative aimed at enhancing security, providing services, and revitalizing this area to become a civilized front and a vibrant district in Baghdad."
He added that "the service work is being done alongside security efforts," pointing out that it includes cleaning and removing violations and illegal activities, in addition to security operations targeting the elimination of corruption and crime hotspots.
The ministry mentioned that the operation resulted in the arrest of hundreds of individuals wanted for various charges, including possession of weapons, narcotics, and organized crime, as well as foreign residents in the area illegally.
It was noted that "there is significant satisfaction among the residents of the area and the broader Iraqi community regarding the operation, which achieved its goals of cleansing it from corruption and crime hotspots, removing uncivilized manifestations, and providing services." He indicated that "the operation will continue until all its goals are achieved before moving into the second phase, which involves maintaining security achievements and developing the area service-wise and civilizationally."
