The operations room of the General Directorate of Civil Defense received a report at 11 PM last Saturday, June 1, 2024, concerning the disappearance of a young man and woman who were hiking from Al-Aaqoura to the outskirts of Ahmaj. They were supposed to meet their friends, but communication was lost with them at 7 PM. Civil Defense teams promptly responded to the report, equipped with mountain rescue and ambulance gear. The teams divided into several groups, collaborating with members of the Ahmaj municipality to conduct a comprehensive field survey in the geographical area extending from Al-Aaqoura to Ahmaj, passing through the towns of Anaya, Lahaft, and Mashmash. The search operation continued throughout the night among the hills and valleys without finding any trace of them.
After an uninterrupted search that lasted until 8:30 AM today, it was discovered that the young man and woman had taken refuge on the roof of an abandoned house in the Wadi area (Ahmaj). Their phones had run out of battery, but they were in good health. The Civil Defense vehicle then transported them to a safe location after confirming their safety.
In this context, the General Directorate of Civil Defense alerted citizens who might face similar situations to stay near areas with coverage and to send their location to Civil Defense or to someone they trust to provide the Civil Defense operations room with their location after calling 125. They urged those heading to remote areas to exercise caution regarding the use of their mobile phones to avoid battery depletion, to carry a power bank, sufficient food and drink, a first aid kit, and to stay in the location from which they sent their location via mobile phone to facilitate their quick rescue and to avoid facing serious dangers.
