Sami Gemayel Warns Against Settlements at the Expense of Lebanon's Sovereignty

Lebanese Forces Party leader, MP Sami Gemayel, pointed out that "everyone is waiting for a resolution between Israel and Hezbollah, while the official Lebanon is nonexistent. What is happening creates concern, as the priority remains that no settlement occurs at the expense of the state's sovereignty. What matters to us is the implementation of Resolution 1701 to prevent any aggression against our land, as well as the implementation of Resolution 1559, which is a prerequisite for Lebanon to regain its free decision."

After meeting with French ambassador Hervé Magro, he said: "We are concerned because no one is talking about the Lebanese who have been displaced within their own country and the tens of thousands who have left their villages, and unfortunately the state's foreign ministry is not addressing the issue."

He emphasized that "the state should be the sole responsible body for its security and the security of its people, which requires the election of a president to be the chief spokesperson and negotiator on behalf of the Lebanese people, placing Lebanon's interests on the table and discussing the Lebanese issue."

He added: "Does Hezbollah want to remain isolated from the state and the Lebanese people and be in confrontation with them? Does it want to be in a state of constant conflict and violence, attempting to marginalize others and dominate them, or does it want to be a partner? We must reach a point where we seriously consider Lebanon's future; we are not prepared to live under the governance of someone who is not committed to the institutions."
