Survivor of Microbus Drowning in the Nile Reveals: A Fight Led to the Car's Movement

One of the survivors from the drowning incident of the microbus "Abu Ghaleb Ferry" on Tuesday, which resulted in the deaths of several girls working in harvest collection, shared her account. Aya Qutub, during a call-in to the program "Happening in Egypt" aired on MBC Egypt, stated that a fight broke out on the ferry while it was crossing. She noted that the microbus driver was not inside his vehicle, as he usually steps out and stands next to it until the ferry crosses to the other side of the Nile.

Qutub, who survived the incident because she was on another microbus on the same ferry and witnessed what occurred, explained that several fighters on the ferry pushed the microbus—whose driver had not engaged the handbrake—causing it to roll directly into the water as it was at the edge of the ferry.

The witness, who is 15 years old, mentioned that one girl inside the doomed microbus jumped out as the vehicle moved, while the other girls drowned in front of everyone in shock, including her cousin and several of her friends. She mentioned that all the other girls were of similar age or younger, studying in the preparatory stage, and had just finished their exams a week prior, beginning to work to help their families financially.

The survivor believes the microbus driver should not be blamed, as the fault stemmed from the young fighters pushing the vehicle during the fight.
