India, which is undergoing the largest elections in the world, will rehold voting in 11 polling centers in the northeastern state of Manipur today, Monday, after reports of violence and damage to voting machines in a region that has experienced ethnic clashes for months. The chief election official in Manipur stated in a release late Saturday night that the electoral authorities declared the voting in 11 centers void and ordered a re-vote. On Friday, the voting commenced for nearly a billion people in the world's most populous country, with elections starting in the state, where almost a billion citizens are eligible to vote, continuing until June 1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to secure a rare third term, thanks to issues such as growth, welfare, security, and Hindu nationalism. The Congress party, the largest opposition party, has called for re-elections in 47 polling centers in Manipur, claiming that the voting sites were controlled, facilitating election fraud.
