The action of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu displaying a map of Morocco without Western Sahara during a television interview has triggered angry reactions in Morocco, reaching the point where calls for the cancellation of normalization agreements with Tel Aviv emerged. Aous Ramal, the head of the Unified Reform Movement, stated that "sensible Moroccans know that the Moroccan Sahara will not be returned by normalization or otherwise; the Moroccan Sahara is in its place, and Moroccans are in their Sahara, and any linking of normalization to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara is rejected." He added, "Israel has never supported the Moroccan Sahara's position, and even in the tripartite signing, there were actually bilateral agreements between Morocco and the United States, between Morocco and Israel, and between the United States and Israel, the contents of which we were not privy to. The Zionists assert that they have no commitment regarding the Moroccan Sahara."
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Unified Socialist Left Party, Jamal Al-Asri, emphasized that his party has always considered that Morocco will gain nothing from the recognition of an ostracized and terrorist occupying entity concerning the Moroccan Sahara. He added that "anyone betting on winning our national cause with the support of the Zionist entity is like someone betting on a mirage." These calls coincide with massive demonstrations on Friday evening in 56 Moroccan cities in support of Palestine and condemnation of the ongoing war in Gaza, demanding the "overthrow of normalization." Netanyahu's office issued an apology for using a map that showed the Western Sahara region separated from the official map of Morocco, stating that "a mistake occurred in the map shown in the interview with TF1 French channel."
