The political council of the Free Patriotic Movement affirmed that "we believe in the unity of Lebanon, and we consider the authority as a tool to achieve the state project, hence the necessity of electing a president for the republic as a starting point for restructuring authority by forming a government that carries a reform program to be implemented in cooperation with the president." In this context, the movement confirmed in a statement following its first regular meeting of 2024 its "openness to everything that facilitates the election of the president based on respect for partnership and balance," considering that "a stable solution requires exploring the development of the system within the framework of the National Accord Document and the constitution emanating from the Taif Agreement."
It noted that "the expansion of the Israeli war on Gaza to other areas within Palestinian territories and southern Lebanon and the involvement of other countries from Yemen to Iraq are all indicators of a dangerous escalation that threatens to ignite a wide-ranging war in the region." Accordingly, the movement called for "shaping a national stance to protect Lebanon from assaults and involvement in the war," asserting that there is no solution, peace, or stability in the Middle East except through the implementation of international resolutions that affirm the right of the Palestinian people to establish their state and restore Lebanon's rights, as well as finding a solution that alleviates the burden of Syrian displaced persons and Palestinian refugees.
