The official spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obeida, announced that "communication has been lost with gunmen guarding four hostages in Gaza, including Hirsch Goldberg Polin." He stated in a message: "As a result of the brutal Zionist bombardment over the past ten days, we have lost contact with a group of our fighters guarding four of the Israeli captives." Goldberg Polin had previously appealed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his release in a video message published by Al-Qassam in late April. He is one of over 250 Israelis and foreigners kidnapped by fighters led by Hamas during their attack on Israel on October 7.
