A security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani discussed the security and protection of archaeological and heritage sites in Iraq on Wednesday. The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, stated in a press release, "Today, the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani, presided over the regular meeting of the National Security Council, where the security situation in the country was discussed, along with issues on the agenda, as well as requirements for security and intelligence work for various security and military units."
The meeting included a discussion on the "National Project for Preventive Guidance Against the Danger of Drugs and Protecting Youth from It," presented by the Ministries of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research, along with the National Security Advisory. The council directed the adoption of a comprehensive national strategy to combat drugs, which includes well-studied approaches aimed at protecting our youth from this dangerous scourge and safeguarding society from its risks.
The meeting also addressed the "File of Security and Protection of Archaeological and Heritage Sites in Iraq, and the Inclusion of Cultural Properties in the International List," presented by the National Security Advisory and the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage at the Ministry of Culture. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces directed that the file be studied by the Advisors' Authority, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and the Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, and to prepare a set of measures aimed at protecting archaeological and heritage sites and preserving them from vandalism and theft.
