Gaza War: Ons Jabeur Appeals for International Intervention to Stop the Fire

Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur has urged the world to "talk more" about the ongoing war in Gaza, describing the impact of the conflict as "unjust." The best Arab player in tennis history stated that she has effectively stopped following the war on social media. The 29-year-old added on Friday, "I feel very sad when I watch the news every day, and honestly I avoid being on social media, because what is happening in Gaza now is a terrifying tape."

Jabeur made her remarks at a press conference after reaching the Round of 16 at the Roland Garros, the second of the four major tennis tournaments. The player, who has reached the finals of a Grand Slam tournament three times, continued: "I hope that people talk more, because what is happening is unfair. These children, women, and men are suffering. We are in 2024, and it is very sad to see so many countries remaining silent about what is happening." Jabeur had previously become a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme "to participate in various initiatives, including an initiative focused on the emergency situation in Gaza," according to the organization at the time.
