Prime Minister Najib Mikati received the "National Moderation" bloc this afternoon at the Grand Serail, which included MPs Ahmad Al-Khair, Walid Al-Baerini, Mohammed Suleiman, Sajee Al-Attiyah, Abdul Aziz Al-Samad, and Ahmad Rustum. After the meeting, MP Sajee Al-Attiyah spoke on behalf of the bloc, stating: "The meeting addressed several topics. We informed his Excellency about the initiative and the results of our rounds; he was supportive and encouraging, emphasizing the importance of following through with vigor as it is a national responsibility, and ‘moderation’ is still present in all its capacities. We touched on all existing obstacles, and his Excellency will assist us in cooperation with President Nabih Berri and the other leaders."
He added: "We also discussed three subjects: the construction permits granted by municipalities, which are about 130 to 150 meters according to the approval of the Minister of Interior. This aligns with the existing proliferation in our regions and property overlaps, accommodating the region's capabilities. This is very important news, and with the cooperation of our colleagues and the Minister of Interior, God willing, this circular should be in our hands next week."
Al-Attiyah continued: "The second topic is the advances for municipal unions as we are suffering in the waste management issue. Our municipal fund is very weak, and following the extension of municipalities, there is a great need to replenish the municipal fund and alleviate the waste burden from us."
He mentioned that "we have a dump and a plant for which we requested activation and support for the Akkar region like other areas. President Mikati contacted the Minister of Finance to follow up on this matter."
He clarified that "the third topic is public works; the maintenance is for qualified roads. We in Akkar are deprived and have no roads to access, so we requested the Ministry of Public Works to rehabilitate the bad roads, and we will follow up on this matter with the ministry and invite the minister to Akkar. We thank President Mikati for his continuous support for the Akkar region."
