Case that Brought Tears to Egyptians... She Hit Her Father with a Shoe and the Court Acquitted Her

In a poignant scene that brought tears to the attendees at the Imbaba Court in Egypt, the Imbaba Misdemeanor Court accepted the appeal of a girl against her six-month prison sentence for assaulting her father with a shoe, and ruled for her acquittal after the father pleaded with the judge for clemency, fearing for his daughter's future.

The incident began when the police in Imbaba received a complaint from a housewife accusing her younger sister of assaulting their elderly father with a shoe, slapping him on the face, cursing him, and verbally abusing him in front of neighbors, as well as mistreating him. Following the necessary procedures, the accused was arrested and referred to the public prosecution for investigation.

In front of the prosecution, the accused stated that one of the neighbors complained to her that her father was arguing and cursing him, so she reprimanded her father and hit him to discipline him and prevent him from repeating his actions. The eldest daughter continued in her statement that the last of these transgressions by the elderly father was that the younger daughter, 23 years old, assaulted him with a shoe, claiming she was reprimanding him due to his abusive language towards a neighbor, and the eldest daughter requested the court to seek justice for their father.

During the investigations, neighbors testified about the incident, confirming the accused's assault on her father with the shoe after hearing him say, "You still hit your father with a shoe, Sania."

The prosecution decided to refer the accused to trial, which issued a verdict to imprison her in absentia for six months. When the father learned about the decision to imprison his daughter, he went to court during the appeal session, pleading with the judge to acquit her, stating that he was dropping his right regarding her assault on him and denying all accusations made against her during the investigations.

The father said, "This is youthful folly and I forgive her for everything, but please don’t imprison her; her future will be ruined." When the judge asked the accused daughter, she replied, "My father is the greatest man in the world, I have wronged him a lot, I have hurt him greatly. He has never upset any of us nor held back anything from us since our mother died. I am the bad daughter and I deserve anything that happens to me; I do not forgive myself."

The court noted the father’s waiver, as well as the waiver of the eldest daughter concerning the report, ruled the appeal as accepted, and declared the accused not guilty.
