Title: Union of Lebanon's Electric Workers Threatens Warning Steps

The Union of Workers and Employees of the Electricité du Liban held an extraordinary meeting today with a single item on the agenda: the incident that occurred in the Antelias district involving its president and an employee from BUS, one of the service provider companies. The union issued the following statement: "The union asks those in charge of the project: - Has the institution become an adjunct or hostage to service provider companies, or is it truly the main authority? - Stop the violation of the institution's powers and those of its employees as outlined in the institution's specific laws.

The union condemns yesterday's events in the Antelias district and the pressure exerted by BUS company by not allowing its employees to work in the mentioned district today. The union requests that the DSP committee send a strongly worded letter to BUS and not to be lenient in this matter, requiring them to engage appropriately with all heads of departments and employees throughout Lebanon.

Finally, the union warns against any laxity regarding the powers of the institution and its employees, or else it will find itself compelled to take appropriate measures to safeguard the public service and the dignity of its employees."
