Execution of Syrians in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced today, Saturday, the execution of two individuals holding Syrian nationality in the Tabuk region, following their conviction for smuggling prohibited amphetamine pills. The Saudi interior ministry stated in a statement: “By the grace of God, both Imad Mahmoud Hussein and Mustafa Mahmoud Hussein - Syrian nationality - were apprehended while attempting to smuggle prohibited amphetamine pills. The investigation with them led to charges being brought against them, and with their referral to court, a ruling was issued confirming their conviction and sentencing them to death as a form of punishment. This ruling was upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, and a royal order was issued to carry out what was decided legally and approved by its source.” The statement added: “The death penalty was carried out against the perpetrators Imad Mahmoud Hussein and Mustafa Mahmoud Hussein on Saturday, the 3rd of Dhu al-Qi'dah 1445 AH, corresponding to May 11, 2024, in the Tabuk region.” The ministry continued: “The Ministry of Interior announces this to affirm the government's commitment to combating drugs in all forms due to the serious harm they cause to individuals and society, imposing the harshest penalties on offenders, guided by the correct teachings of God's law. It also warns anyone who engages in such actions that the lawful punishment will be their fate, and God guides to the straight path.”
