The Lebanese Army Command - Directorate of Guidance reported that "on the night of July 16-17, 2024, during an attempt by an army patrol to stop 16 Syrians inside an SUV after they illegally entered Lebanese territory in the town of Sheikh-Lar in Akkar, the driver (W.S.) tried to flee from the patrol, resulting in the car overturning. Those inside were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, but the driver and one of the injured soon died. An investigation has been initiated with the detainees under the supervision of the competent judiciary."
