Israeli media reported today, Sunday, that a large fire broke out near the Israel Museum, which was evacuated of visitors while firefighting teams dealt with the flames. According to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, 23 firefighting and rescue teams were dispatched to tackle the fire that erupted in an area close to the museum in an effort to prevent its spread. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and prevent the flames from spreading further inside the Israel Museum. No injuries have been reported, as over 20 teams and 8 aircraft are working in the area.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, rescue teams and 4 firefighting aircraft are working to control the burning forests in the open area near the Israel Museum. Israeli media stated that the fire broke out in a rugged area in Emek HaMtsleva but spread to the museum area due to winds and the khamsin weather. An Israeli Civil Defense spokesperson reported that 23 firefighting and rescue teams were able to control the fire.
The Israel Museum is the largest museum in the country, housing thousands of exhibits of immense historical and artistic importance, including "The Nimrod" by Isaac Danziger, "Angelus Novus" by Paul Klee, "Saint Peter in Prison" by Rembrandt, and works by Van Gogh and Claude Monet.
