The Indian Navy intercepted a ship carrying 3.3 tons of drugs in what is considered one of the largest drug seizures in the country's history, taking place in the Arabian Sea along the international waters. A spokesperson for the Indian Navy stated that the operation was carried out in international waters of the Arabian Sea in collaboration with the Indian Navy, the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Gujarat, and the Narcotics Control Bureau.
The spokesperson added, "The Indian Navy, in coordinated operations with the Narcotics Control Bureau, intercepted a suspicious vessel carrying nearly 3,300 kilograms of contraband (3,089 kg of cannabis, 158 kg of methamphetamine, and 25 kg of morphine)."
This shipment of illegal drugs is considered significantly larger than any previous seizure. A senior official from the federal drug enforcement agency confirmed to The Indian Express that "the Narcotics Control Bureau and other agencies have uncovered another international drug trafficking network and conducted the largest external seizure (in terms of quantity) in the country's history."
It was noted that the crew of the intercepted vessel has been detained and handed over to law enforcement agencies. There is a belief that the five individuals apprehended on board the boat are either Iranian or Pakistani, but no personal identification documents have been found with them to confirm this.
