Release of Activist Makram Rabah... and His Charges

Judge Fadi Akiki announced today, Monday, that activist Makram Rabah will be released pending investigation, with further questioning scheduled for next week, stating that "no suspicion of dealing with Israel has been attributed to him." He added, "We are continuing the investigative procedures and will make a decision afterwards."

After his release, Makram Rabah stated, "If I were a Captagon dealer like Hezbollah, the investigative judge would not have dared to detain me."

Judge Fadi Akiki, after listening to Makram Rabah, had instructed the General Security to take his phone in order to extract information due to a fabricated suspicion of dealing with Israel. Reports indicated that "the investigations revolved around the interview he conducted with (Spot Shot), where Akiki considered Rabah's disclosure of information related to Hezbollah's locations as coordinates for the enemy, despite the fact that this information had previously been published in local and international media."

Samy Gemayel, the head of the Lebanese Forces party, wrote on "X": "Release Makram Rabah immediately. Just as we faced the security-judicial system in the recent past and brought it down, we will not allow the return of fabricating files and restricting freedom of expression under any pretext."

Najat Aoun Saliba also wrote: "Freedom of opinion and expression is a right enshrined in the constitution. Security summons due to a position or opinion is nothing but a return to obsolete practices. Therefore, we condemn the summons of the academic Makram Rabah aimed at intimidation and suppressing freedoms."
