Dr. Mahmoud al-Habbash, advisor to the Palestinian president on religious affairs, affirmed that Hamas still acts in the interest of the Muslim Brotherhood, who do not believe in a liberation or resistance program but only in working against Egypt.
In an exclusive statement to "Al Arabiya.net," al-Habbash continued his attack on Hamas, asserting that it has provided free excuses for Israel to escalate aggression against the Palestinians, aiming to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank and abort the idea of a Palestinian state. He pointed out that Hamas has been involved in the outbreak of six wars on the Gaza Strip, with the current war being the sixth faced by Gaza. Al-Habbash stated that Hamas's goal is to remain in service of a program unrelated to Palestine, which is tied to the Muslim Brotherhood and regional agendas and countries with their own interests, indifferent to our people who are being annihilated.
He added: "The Brotherhood does not believe in a liberation or resistance program; they only believe in a work program against Egypt and against former Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. A clear example of this is when the Palestinian revolution began, the Brotherhood and Hamas both boycotted it, and now they want to be a substitute for the Palestine Liberation Organization." He stressed that this is completely unacceptable and will not happen, announcing that it is in the interest of Palestinians to stop the war and restore security and stability so that our people in Gaza can live in safety and peace like the people of the world.
Al-Habbash emphasized that Hamas has caused the death of thousands of victims without gains since its coup and takeover of Gaza in 2007, leading everyone into a dead end and providing free excuses for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to evade political obligations and attack Gaza whenever he wishes.
The Palestinian president's advisor explained that the Gaza Strip is a block of unarmed people who possess no weapons, warning of a humanitarian disaster if a Palestinian invasion of Rafah occurs, asserting that this operation would claim the lives of tens of thousands of the Palestinian people as there are currently about one and a half million citizens residing there after being displaced from the north to the south.
Al-Habbash noted that the Palestinian people are the ones paying the price for everything that has happened and will happen, especially the innocents of the population trapped in Gaza who fall under the hammer of occupation and the anvil of Hamas, which jeopardizes their fate. He clarified that Netanyahu is lying when he claims that his goal is to uproot Hamas; rather, the ideal situation he desires is for Hamas to remain in Gaza at a level that does not pose a threat and danger to Israel.
