Geologist Expert Predicts Earthquakes in Iraq, Iran, and Northern Syria

Professor of Geology at the University of Baghdad, Saleh Awad, announced his expectation of new earthquakes occurring in October. He stated, "These earthquakes are expected to strike the Iraqi-Iranian border and northern Syria." Awad mentioned during a phone interview on Egyptian channel “Sada El-Balad” that the situation is difficult and unstable for Arab and Asian countries until the 10th of next month.

Additionally, he pointed out that northern Syria represents the northeastern part of the African plate and that this area could experience an earthquake due to the high pressure on the plate in these regions. He discussed the possibility of an earthquake or tremor along the Iraqi-Iranian border and noted that a light tremor occurred on Sunday in the city of Kirkuk in northeastern Iraq.

The Iraqi scientist explained the reasons for the earthquake in Morocco, which struck the city of Marrakech with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale. Referring to the planetary theory, he stated that Morocco is located on the northeastern edge of the African plate, which is why the earthquake occurred. He added that the African plate is highly active, and the Moroccan plate is moving due to its location.

He clarified that the Mediterranean Sea may close due to the movement of the African plate northward and the European plate southward, as well as the movement and collision of the American plate and the Caribbean plate with the African plate. He emphasized that there is pressure that is trying to hinder the rotation of the earth and that it is difficult for the plates to stabilize easily.

Furthermore, he continued that the earthquakes that followed the major earthquake in Morocco were not an energy release as claimed, but rather a result of the instability of the plates and gravitational stress, and this phenomenon may recur in the future.
