Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the "Declaration of Deep Partnership between the two countries" today, Thursday. Tebboune indicated that "Western pressure will not affect Algeria's support for Russia, and that relations between the two countries have never changed in 60 years, with Algeria always supporting Russia. Today, there may be some outside pressures, but this will never affect our relations." He added, "Algeria has maintained its independence thanks to Russia's support, which provided it with weapons to help it preserve that independence under difficult circumstances." Tebboune also confirmed that "Algeria wants to expedite its entry into the BRICS organization."
For his part, Putin emphasized that relations with Algeria "are of special importance to Russia and have a strategic nature, and that the adoption of the declaration will mark the beginning of a new and more advanced phase in bilateral relations between the two countries." In addition, the two presidents signed an agreement for cooperation in the field of the peaceful use of outer space. Putin welcomed the Algerian president at the Kremlin, where the meeting began with the playing of the national anthems of both countries, followed by a bilateral meeting that later expanded to include delegations from both nations.
