Iran Cancels Death Sentence Against Rapper Tohmaj Salehi

The Supreme Court of Iran has annulled the death sentence issued against the well-known rapper Tohmaj Salehi, who has been imprisoned for over a year and a half for his support of the protest movement that erupted in 2022, as announced by his lawyer on Saturday, according to Sky News. Amir Raisian stated on the platform X that "the death sentence (on the rapper) has been canceled, and according to the appeal decision from the Supreme Court, the case will be referred to a similar court." Tohmaj Salehi supported the protest movement ignited by the death of Mahsa Amini while in custody of the morality police on September 16, 2022. Amini was a young Iranian Kurdish woman arrested for violating strict dress code rules for women. Iranian judiciary had accused Salehi of "corruption on earth, propaganda against the regime, and incitement to riot," according to his lawyer.
