The head of the Libyan Joint Military Commission for the western region, Ahmed Abushamma, stated that it is necessary to "hold elections with a unified commander and chief of staff to help remove the mercenaries." Abushamma added that "each party is attached to its mercenaries, and it is the politicians who are delaying their departure," emphasizing the need for elections and a unified president for Libya, along with a unified military commander and chief of staff to facilitate the removal of mercenaries.
He clarified that "there was an agreement during the 5+5 Committee meetings to form a unified force to secure southern Libya, but so far no positive steps have been taken regarding this." The chair of the military committee pointed out that "the committee and the United Nations have had a plan for two years for the departure of the mercenaries, but political stagnation and lack of agreement among the political parties are the reasons for the delay in this matter. Meanwhile, there are still breaches at the borders, which have not been fully secured yet."
