Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid made shocking statements in which he admitted that the Israeli army relies on reserve forces during long wars. He stated, "We need to stop the war, make a deal, and bring the hostages home; from there, we can think things over. Israel's war doctrine has always been against long wars. Our army is based on reserves; we are not suited for long wars."
