The head coach of the Jordanian national team, Moroccan Hussein Amouta, commented on the "Nashama" achieving an important victory over the Saudi team with a score of 2-1 at the "Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium" in the capital Riyadh yesterday, Tuesday. The two neighbors faced off in the sixth and final round of the second stage of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup, with "Nashama" winning 2-1.
With this victory, the Jordanian team seized the top spot in Group F, having equal points (13) with the Saudi team, but leading on the basis of goal difference. It’s noteworthy that both teams had secured their qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup before their match yesterday, in addition to the third and final stage of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
In a press conference after the match, Amouta said: "We played in a defensive manner, relying on quick counter-attacks as this was our only option against a team that relies on possession... We played in a way that suited our capabilities."
Amouta considered that the Jordanian team was fortunate in the first half, which witnessed almost complete control by the Saudi team. He noted that the Saudi team imposed its rhythm and ball control, but the Jordanian team was lucky to end the first half ahead in the score. He pointed out that his players tried to rectify the situation in the second half and exchanged the ball with the Saudi players.
The Jordanian coach concluded that the way the team played was ideal as they exploited the Saudi team’s aggression, but emphasized that his players struggled greatly to maintain the lead against a strong team.
