Strong Earthquake Strikes Off the Coast of Taiwan

The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan announced today, Sunday, that an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck the area off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan. The bureau stated that "the earthquake's epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean, 55.9 kilometers southeast of Hualien County at a depth of 30 kilometers." It added, "This was followed by a smaller earthquake of 4.6 magnitude, which occurred at sea 23.8 kilometers northeast of Hualien at 11:07 AM." No reports of damage or injuries have been received. The earthquakes on Sunday come weeks after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan on April 3, resulting in the deaths of 17 people and over 1,100 injuries.
